What's the best setup for hard drive backup?

I want to get two terabyte hard drives. I'm going to use one of the drives I have now for my OS disk and then have one of the new drives for saving media and the second for primary backup of the media drive.

So, my questions are:

Is that the best way to set it up as in, if my media catches a virus or bricks, will the second drive likely be affected?

What would the best software for automatic back up be?

You might want to check out CrashPlan to manage the backups. It can backup data to another drive and take care of it all automatically for you. I have been testing it lately and have been impressed with it so far.
