You need to use a software to remove the copy- protection on the DVD.
I suggest you download DVD Decrypter and follow the instructions. The files will be copied onto your computers hard drive. Then you can burn your copy to DVD using Nero or Decrypter

AnyDVD and DVD-Region Free are commercial on-the-fly dvd decryption software which do the same thing but with a few more bells and whistles. Many commercial DVD transcoding software doe not include ripping ability.

I am not 100% certain about this but if you own the original, i think it is legal to make a copy if it is only for your own use.
