I would like an easy and cheap (preferably free) way to backup my computer. Carbonite is great but it costs $50 a year. Is ther something life that that is free?

You can use the free Mozy to backup your personal data online securely. Is an install and forget software; it will keep the backup uptodate with no action.

Use this link to get 2.25 Gb for free for your backups:

I am using for many months and is very good.

i would say on a floppy disk.

The safest way is to backup all your important files to the external drives or DVDs. External drives are more preferable since they are more reliable, you can loose all data stored on DVD only because of one scratch. Therefore if these photos and files are really important for you don't be a miser and buy yourself an external drive in order to avoid possible future regrets. Btw you can simply by an USB enclosure(approximetely 15 bucks) and rather big internal drive (1600 GIGs, 50 bucks) and use these combination for off-site data backup. As for software I'd recommend you to use SyncToy for data transfer, it is free and rather stable.

u can save files in emails sending to another address or burning DVD or saving to ur mp3 player if u have one or your cell phone or login to free website creating like http://bravenet.com. There are many ways to do that just use ur brain

I recommend getting an external storage device, such as a USB hard drive or memory stick. Make sure that you get one big enough to fit all of the data you want to backup.

Then you can use the built-in Windows Backup utility. Click Start->Programs->Accessories->System Tools->Backup.

You can either follow the Backup Wizard which will guide you step by step in backing up your files or you can follow my instructions here.

When you first start the backup utility you'll see the Welcome screen, click on the Backup tab.

You will then see a tree-view of your files and folders, proceed to checking off each file, drive or folder that you want to backup.

At the bottom of the Backup screen you'll see the Backup Destination, choose File, then click Browse, and browse to your external storage device where you want your backup to go, enter a filename and click on the Start Backup button.

This may take a few seconds, minutes or hours depending on how much data you are backing up.

don't be so cheap man just go get yourself an external hard drive...one of those small ones with mucho space

some websites allow you to back up to like 5 gigs for free

i can't recall of the top of my head but im sure if you google it you'll find some

the surefire way to go though is to get an external harddrive
