I just bought a backup tape drive (off ebay) for my pc and I have a tape with information already on it. How do I access the information stored on this tape? I'm using Windows XP. Will I need any sort of special software or is the feature just built into Windows?
You will need to install the drivers for it. If they weren't provided check the manufacturers web site. Once the computer recognizes the drive it will be assigned a drive letter for access.
You need the same software that you used to put the data on the backup drive to retrieve the data from the tape.
I have Win Xp Home, it does not have a backup software.
I am not sure abt Xp Pro, i think it has a backup software inbuilt.
