Now that Terabyte hard drives are so cheap, I have two. What is the best way to backup these drives for long term archive? I'm tempted to just buy terabyte drives as backup, and store them in a waterproof container, but do they do OK when just shelved for long periods of time?

If you put them on shelves for a long time, moisture tends to accumulate on it. You could put it in a waterproof box to make sure that they don't get wet and get messed up. you could also just put the hard drives in boxes along with song moisture absorbing packets. By the way, as Schecky said, use anti static packing to protect the hard drives.

For long term storage. As long as the environment they're in is clean and dry (and not near anything magnetic) they should be just fine. What you might do is take a thin piece of cardboard and wrap it around the inside of the waterproof container. This should reduce the risk of damage if it falls off the shelf, and will also reduce static electricity (plastic is a great conductor). Do not use duct tape one the container (to tape the card board), it becomes statically charged when you tear a piece off the roll. I would create a cushion around the harddrive using a towel, just do it while standing barefoot (without socks).

yes, also make sure you go with good brands, not just cheap ones- in my experience Seagate and Western Digital are best :]

you could always back up a TB on another TB or in two 500s

They do ok. Keep the anti static bag and store it in there.

I would buy more drives, yes.

get you a 1tb external

I want to know what will happen if I backup my jailbroken ipod to itunes and do a restore on it. I'm doing this so I can update it to the 2.0 version

I understand that the restore will remove everything on it and put it like brand new but will the backup have all of my songs, videos, and everything else in there?

If you back up your jailbroken ipod, nothing really is going to happen. I woudl suggest just to re-jailbeak it with quickpwn and then start over. If you want a non-jailbroken ipod, I suggest that you do not back up you r ipod to uyour computer because that backup may change your ipod to become jailbroken again. I never ried it but thsi is my prediction. I wouyld just jailbreak teh ipod and start a new synch and not with a back up. This is what I did with my Iphone 2g.

Transfer iPod/iPhone/iTouch stuff to computer or recover lost or missing music, backup and restore all of iPod/iPhone/iTouch content I recommend you Cucusoft iPhone/iTouch/iPod to Computer Transfer. This software can keep your iPod/iPhone safety.
